40 Years on and Still Going – LAMMA – Agronomist & Arable Farmer

Find out what you can expect from Hutchinsons at Lamma 2022 ...

LAMMA will celebrate its 40th anniversary on 11-12 January at the NEC in Birmingham. Over 700 exhibitors will showcase the latest machinery as well as a wide range of technology and equipment for the agriculture industry.

Visitors to the RAGT Seed stand (Hall 10,Stand 10.200) will be able to talk to RAGT plant breeders and members of the commercial team about the latest combinable and forage crop developments as well as soil health plants. The stand will include an impressive range of indoor crop plots featuring innovative varieties.

Managing director Lee Bennett says: “Our experience in the area of DNA technology, adopting new techniques and developing them to optimise trait selection across its breeding programmes, brings many advantages in developing and breeding the varieties we sell and the advice we provide.

“The development of genetic markers and advances in technology have greatly increased the accuracy and speed at which the presence or absence of desired characteristics can be detected.

“Some of the more obvious examples include helping to improve pest and disease resistance as the chemical armoury dwindles, boosting crop resilience in the face of climate change and improving nitrogen use efficiency to help growers drive down input costs and carbon footprints.”

Hutchinsons (Hall 10 Stand 10.712) will have help at hand with products and advice on its stand.

TerraMap Carbon is the first carbon mapping service to provide the most accurate baseline measurement of both organic and active carbon in the soil and is now available to UK farmers.

Within the Omnia Carbon management tool, it is possible to create different rotation scenarios from types of cropping and variety to stewardship and management practices and see first-hand the projected CO2 impact and financial performance for each scenario.

Future services within Omnia will offer the ability to also create potential cropping scenarios to calculate costs of production. This will allow users to make decisions on how to manage both carbon and profit before putting a crop into the ground.

Hutchinsons is also helping growers plan the best way forward to benefit from the opportunities available by evaluating the many stewardship options to help farmers make more informed decisions. Also on show will be the Omnia E-Seed, which is the first standalone variable rate drill conversion kit that fits to any standard drill. It enables a standard land metered drill to be converted into a variable rate drill.
