Trial results that reveal how to increase yields and improve profitability will be available to discuss at this year's Hutchinsons stand at Cereals.
By comparing variably drilled wheat alongside a farm standard rate on spilt fields and taking them to yield, the statistically-valid work has proven that using Omnia Precision Agronomy can increase yields by an average of 0.6t/ha, worth £99/ha (based on wheat at £165/t). In this particular trial, costs of production were also reduced, by as much as £28/t, says Hutchinsons.
Terramap is a soil scanning and mapping service available exclusively through Hutchinsons and Omnia. Terramap will be launched at Cereals.
Hutchinsons Helix Project is a farm-scale project, that was launched this spring. The project is looking at how technologies can be linked with knowledge to deliver a greater level of advice by agronomists to farm businesses. Work has already begun on areas of research such as climate and pest prediction, nutrition technology, variety trait work and environmental sustainability.
Visitors to the stand can find out more about what is happening at Helix and how the learnings can make a difference on their farms.
Hutchinsons Healthy Soils technicians, technical experts and agronomists will also be on hand during the course of Cereals and invite anyone interested in discussing these or any other crop production issues to visit the stand.
The Hutchinsons stand will also be hosting the presentation to the winners of the Cereals Challenge - an inter-university and college competition aimed at encouraging a new generation of farmers and agronomists into the industry.
Now in its 10th year the 2019 competition sees students from Writtle University College, Newcastle University, Royal Agricultural University, Riseholme College and Harper Adams University competing to see who can grow the best virtual crop of spring barley to manage problematic black-grass.
The winning team will be announced on the Hutchinsons stand at 4pm on June 12 and awarded with a trophy and £1,500 prize money.
