“Absolutely thrilled” was the immediate reaction from Sally Cox upon winning the Young Agronomist of the year award.

It means so much to me and is also a tribute to all the people behind the scenes who have helped me get to where I am today.”

After a year in Australia working as an assistant agronomist, Sally returned home to work as a trials assistant agronomist for Bayer. She then joined her current employer Farmacy as an arable agronomist. Having worked through the Foundation Programme she won the prestigious Barrie Orme shield in 2016. She currently works as a specialist within the business in Omnia Precision Farming, TerraMap, Healthy Soils, and Foundation Programme technical trainer for new entrant agronomists.

She has a current customer base of 30 farmers, covering 16,000 acres of arable cropping across Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire. Working for Farmacy Sally has access to the constantly developing Omnia tool, and has access to the most up to date modules to keep up with the rapidly evolving technology.

Sally has a particular passion for nutrition and chasing yield improvements though the utilisation of micro-nutrition and biostimulation. She is a constant support in a rapidly developing industry-gathering industry knowledge and tailoring it into advice that each of her farmers can follow.

Gathering industry knowledge and tailoring it into advice that all of her farmers can follow is the key to her approach to agronomy.

This approach means that she can give timely well organised advice which results in improved application timing and it is fine details like this that can make the greatest difference.

Sally looks for solutions that are suitable – technically, environmentally, and economically.

She makes decisions from a strong technical base and is able to support these with the necessary evidence when required. She is extremely well placed to deal with and provide support for the agronomic, environmental, and technical challenges that are facing the industry in the future.

She likes to be available as a constant support in a rapidly developing industry.

Looking to future Sally said: “I have just taken on the role of area business manager in my region which I am very much looking forward too.”
